The most common behavioural problems and their solutions

The behavioural problem most feared by dog owners is aggression.

Under no circumstances should a dog be punished for such behaviour, because we can cause that a dog that we punish consistently, deprived by us of the possibility to send warning signals, in a situation when it feels threatened - will immediately bite.
Therefore, it is very important to know and understand the signals that dogs send in order to communicate both with each other and with us - humans.

What are the most distressing situations for owners?

The situation in which the dog does not accept all members of the household... This often happens when some members of the household are absent or almost absent from the dog's life. This happens when someone is not present physically or when this person does not take an interest in the dog, does not feed it or walks it...

In the situations mentioned above it can happen that the dog does not treat the "absent" person as a household member and growls at him or attacks him. The solution here is to involve the householder more in the dog's life.

A similar situation can occur when visiting guests. Here too it is a good idea to invite guests more often and ask them to befriend the dog. Additionally, it is worthwhile to go out for guests together with the dog, walk for a while and then enter the house together. In such a situation the dog will be less nervous and the visit will go more smoothly.

Another and at the same time the most frequent problem is the aggression shown on walks. The question is what to do?

Sometimes dogs lash out and bark at other dogs. If your dog barks at other animals, it is worth considering why. This behaviour may be caused by an insecure, mentally weak or badly managed animal. The basic rule is to carefully observe your pet and draw the right conclusions from its body language. The most common mistake of owners is wrong interpretation of signals and preventing their friend from contact with other dogs. We can learn the rules of dog communication with the help of a behaviourist, who will allow us to see many important issues and thus direct us to the right track.

Another problem is chasing cyclists, runners or cars.

This behaviour may be due to various reasons. One of them is the fear of quickly approaching people. Another may be, for example, an intensified hunting instinct. When your dog has this kind of problem, it's a good idea to train him to stay calm, first in front of stationary objects, then slower, then faster-moving objects.
